Privacy Policy

connected_home is used by one person: its owner. It has no other users, and it collects nothing from anyone else.

What it accesses

With the owner's explicit authorization, and only from the owner's own accounts:

Google Nest — thermostat temperature, humidity, mode, and HVAC status, through Google's Smart Device Management API.
Ring — motion events from the owner's cameras.
Hydrawise — irrigation zone status, and commands to run a zone.

What it does with that data

It automates the owner's house. Motion after dark runs a garden sprinkler; thermostat readings inform heating and cooling decisions. That is the entire purpose.

Where the data goes

Into the owner's own Amazon Web Services account, in the United States. Access tokens are held in AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store as encrypted SecureStrings. Device events are written to a DynamoDB table with a limited retention period and are deleted automatically when it lapses.

What is never done with it

It is never sold, rented, or traded.
It is never shared with third parties, advertisers, or analytics services.
It is never used to train machine-learning models.
It is not transferred to anyone, for any purpose, other than the vendors named above whose APIs the software calls directly.

Google user data

Use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Nest data is used solely to operate the owner's own home automation, is not shared, and is not used for advertising.

Retention and deletion

Device event records expire automatically. Authorization can be revoked at any time from the Google Account permissions page, which immediately ends this application's access. Tokens can be deleted from the owner's AWS account on request.

Children

This application is not directed at children and collects no information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above changes with it.
